First Baptist Church
of Sandy Hook
Welcome to the
What We Believe
We affirm that the Holy Scriptures are God's inerrant and infallible Word and as such it is our absolute and final authority for all matters pertaining to life and faith. We believe in one God Who is Triune, eternally existing as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus is the Christ, the promised Messiah, and that He was crucified and rose again on the third day, and now sits at the right hand of the Father until He comes again to receive His saints into everlasting joy and judge the faithless and unrepentant with eternal condemnation.
We believe that faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is the gift of God without which no one can repent and be saved. We believe that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, according to the Scripture alone, for the glory of God alone. We believe that all who are truly saved will never ultimately fall away from a state of grace but will be preserved until the end. In all that we believe the brass placard on the front corner of our church says it all, "To God Be The Glory".
Meet The Pastor
Pastor Charles Johnson has served the LORD through expository preaching and pastoral ministries since 2000. He has been pastor to one previous church in Owen County, KY and has been at FBC Sandy Hook since 02/2013. He has provided supply preaching for over 48 churches in KY and IN. He formerly served as Director for a Christ-Centered drug and alcohol outreach for seven years.
He has a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies from Boyce College of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, an Associate Degree of Science in Chemical Technology, and a Bachelor Degree of Science in Electrical/ Electronic Engineering. He is currently working on his Master of Divinity in Christian Leadership and Church Ministries.
He and his wife Rachel have been married since 1995 and together they have two daughters and one son-in-law. They were foster parents for over 14 years and provided both long and short term care for 42 children.
Charlie is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and has been to Ecuador on four separate mission trips. He also has completed IMB R.E.A.P. training for the mountains in Peru and participated in flood relief missions in Texas. Between the Navy and missionary trips, he has been to 22 countries.
He enjoys spending time with his family, reading Puritan authors (Thomas Brooks, John Owen, Richard Sibbes, Thomas Watson, Richard Baxter, etc), playing guitar, interacting with Ligonier Ministries and Founder's Ministries, and working with his hands. He finds the Baptist Catechism of 1693 to be an excellent instruction tool and personally affirms the Philadelphia Confession (1742), the New Hampshire Confession (1833) and the Baptist Faith and Message (2000).
Here at the First Baptist Church of Sandy Hook, we strongly value a correct handling of the Word of God and strive to keep Him at the center of all that we do.
We are a very family-oriented church and welcome both adults and children of all ages! We have a newly-renovated nursery for the youngest children, AWANA ministries for elementary through middle school, young adult studies for high school and college students, and plenty of room in the sanctuary for adults.
Our church also emphasizes community service and outreach programs. No matter who you are or what your skill set is, there's always an opportunity to serve and get involved!
