Get Involved

Looking to get more involved at church? Below you'll find a list of ministries that the church partakes in and information about how you can serve!

Elderly/Nursing Home Ministry

At FBC Sandy Hook, we are close to those in our community who are unable to get out and participate due to their age. Through this ministry, we strive to keep the elderly close to our hearts and actively engage with them.

Around Thanksgiving time, volunteers make Thanksgiving fruit baskets and hand-deliver them to shut-ins in our own community. Likewise, around Christmas time, church members get together to pack gift bags for the local nursing home. While are we are there we Christmas carol and share the hope that only Christ can bring. We also offer DVDs and live Facebook streams of sermons to those who are unable to attend church services.

Christmas Backpack Ministry

Our Christmas Backpack Ministry focuses on needy and disadvantaged children in our community and county.

Around Christmas time, we strive to give a measure of relief to those in need around us. All year long we collect financial gifts and goods for this ministry. When the time rolls around, church members volunteer to help pack the backpacks full of goods and distribute them to those most in need.

It's a great way to give back during the holiday season!

Church Food Ministries

Faith Feeding Children, holiday meals for shut-ins, and the church food pantry enable us to help nutritionally deficient children and families in our community with the love of Christ.

Some of these are seasonal needs, some of these occur as families contact us, and some are referred to us by local government officials. Our goal is to help children and families who are struggling through out the year and pay special attention to those who are overlooked or forgotten during the holiday seasons.

A.W.A.N.A.

A.W.A.N.A., or "Approved Workers Are Not Ashamed," is a program for children in grades K-12 that strives to teach the biblical principles of discipleship and evangelism in an attempt to help raise children with a desire to know and love their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Our church is also part of the "Safe Church Initiative," and as such we require all members who will be regularly participating in teaching or assisting with the A.W.A.N.A. program to pass a background check.

A.W.A.N.A. begins Sunday, September 29, 2019 and lasts throughout the entire school year, except for holiday breaks and severe weather. Meetings begin at 6:00 p.m. and last roughly one hour. You can register in advance in person or by clicking here and registering online.

Intercessory Prayer Ministry

As Christians, we have the unique opportunity to come before the almighty God and lift up our praise, cares, and concerns to Him. We fully understand that prayer is a powerful thing.

Whether it be for a member of the congregation or a member of our family, our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world or missionaries, our community or our nation; we have the opportunity to ask God to intercede for them with the joyful knowledge that He hears our prayers.

If you have a prayer request you'd like to make known, or if you would like to become a part of our prayer ministry, email firstbaptistchurch@gmail.com or see Pastor Charlie.

Missions Involvement

Whether it be involvement with missions through Kentucky Disaster Relief, partnering  with other Baptist churches and missionaries around the state, aiding missionary families through the International Missions Board, going to Texas or Louisiana for flood relief, a day of food packing at the North American Missions Board regional center in Ashland, KY, or assisting members in going to Haiti, we believe in be being directly involved with missions not only in our area, but also to the ends of the earth.

There is also the beginning of plans for short-term mission trips to South America in the upcoming year.
